KEFO's roots go back to 1949, when a company for the import and distribution of laboratory chemicals, consumables and equipment was founded under the name Kemoservis. In 1954, it merged with Fotomaterial, which was engaged in the import and distribution of photographic consumables and equipment. The company continued operating under the name Kemoservis-fotomaterial.
By 2001, KEFO had undergone restructuring, privatisation and a name change. From 2001, KEFO is privately owned. That year, the distribution and sale of photographic materials and equipment ceased. Since then, the core business has been the sale and distribution of all products needed by laboratories: laboratory chemicals, standard reference materials, and laboratory consumables and equipment.
In 2004, KEFO established a subsidiary in Sisak, Croatia. As in Slovenia, the Croatian subsidiary has its own offices, warehouse facilities, delivery vehicles and trained staff for selling chemicals and other laboratory goods.
In 2005, KEFO became a co-owner of the European company LLG – Laboratory Logistics Group, the second-largest European company for the sale of laboratory consumables and equipment.
As a co-owner of LLG, KEFO expanded its product range to over 500 suppliers. The central warehouse in Meckenheim (Germany) stocks more than 10,000 different products delivered weekly to customers.
KEFO establishes its second subsidiary in Belgrade, Serbia, equipped with its own offices, warehouse facilities, delivery vehicles and trained staff for selling chemicals and other laboratory goods.
At the end of 2009, KEFO established a subsidiary in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo, with everything needed for independent operations.
By acquiring Merkur's sales programme for Technical Chemicals and Granulates, KEFO expanded its activities to the sale of technical chemicals and granulates. This new activity was adopted by all subsidiaries.
In 2011, KEFO expanded its activities and acquired the new Nutricia enteral nutrition sales programme, covering foods for special medical purposes. Clients include hospitals, care homes, pharmacies and more.
In 2015, KEFO became the authorised representative of TERUMO. The new sales programme covers Terumo medical consumables for cardiology, radiology and oncology.
